Memory Eternal: Fr. Leo Copacia & Mr. Milan Koprivica

The staff of Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio sadly announces the loss of two pillars of the Orthodox Christian community of Detroit this week.

The Very Reverend Father Leo Copacia fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, August 16.  He was a former deacon and assistant priest of St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield.  He served for a time at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in St. Clair Shores, and then was founding pastor of St. Raphael of Brooklyn Parish in Detroit.  Fr. Leo was “the voice of Orthodoxy” for several years as the host of the Council of Orthodox Churches’ “Orthodox Hour” weekly radio program, the predecessor to our present day Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio (DOOR).  Funeral arrangements can be found below or by calling St. George Cathedral at (248) 569-4833 for more information.

Our condolences are also offered to our DOOR staff member and friend, Fr. Dusan Koprivica, pastor of St. Demetrius Orthodox Church in Jackson, on the falling asleep in the Lord of his father, Mr. Milan Koprivica, who reposed on Tuesday, August 15, the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.  He was a long-time member of St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit and sang for more than 50 years with the Ravanica Choir.  For information on funeral arrangements, call St. Lazarus Cathedral at (313) 893-6025.

More will be said on DOOR in coming programs about these two “larger than life” men.  We at Detroit’s Own Orthodox Radio convey our profound condolences to each of their families, respectively, and vow to keep their spirit and legacies alive through the work of our Church here in Detroit.  May their memories be eternal!
