Christmas celebrated with carols and hymns

SOUTHFIELD, MI [COCC] -- On Sunday, 10 December 2018, singers from across Metropolitan Detroit gathered to offer the 3rd Annual "Christ is Born! Glorify Him! A Detroit Orthodox Christmas Concert" at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield.

Hundreds of attendees from across the Metropolitan Detroit area enjoyed a variety of Christmas carols and Orthodox hymns from various cultures (in English and other languages) presented by the Detroit Orthodox Christmas Chorus and the following choirs:

  • Women's Choir of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield
  • "Archbishop Valerian" Choir of St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Southfield
  • Parish Choir of St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Windsor, Ontario
  • Greek Carolers Ensemble
  • An Ensemble of the Orthodox Choir of Metropolitan Detroit

A reception immediately followed in the parish's social hall.

Donations from the collection taken at the event went to the benefit the outreach and charitable work of the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropolitan Detroit, including Detroit's Own Orthodox Radio (DOORradio.org).
