Memory Eternal! His Eminence, Metropolitan Philip
The clergy and faithful of the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches of Metropoltian Detroit join with Orthodox Christians from across the country, and indeed around the world, in offering our condolences to the clergy and faithful of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America on the occasion of the falling asleep in the Lord of Metropolitan Philip (Saliba), of thrice-blessed memory, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of All North America.
Early in his remarkable ministry, His Eminence served for a brief time as deacon at St. George Church in Detroit (now Troy) before being ordained into the holy priesthood in 1959, and then being called to the high office of the episcopate in 1966. (A more extensive biography of Metropolitan Philip can be found here.)
